South Grey Minor Hockey Welcomes New Coaches For The 2023/2024 Season!

The South Grey Spartans would like to thank all of the applicants this year for coaching positions. We

completed a fair, unbiased process, where every applicant had in-person interviews with six selection

committee members that had no affiliation with the team with which they were applying.

Congratulations to the following successful candidates:

Jeff Colton: U7/U8

We welcome Jeff in the U7/U8 half ice world of hockey. Jeff was raised in Flesherton and played most of

his minor hockey career in Flesherton. Having taken a stint with the Highlanders AAA organization, Jeff

was able to make the jump to Junior hockey, playing for the Mount Forest Patriots and Walkerton

Hawks in Junior C. Jeff has always been a supporter of minor hockey: running skills sessions, evaluating

tryouts and much more. Jeff is now following his own children through minor hockey and will coach one

of our younger teams. Welcome to the team Jeff.

Steven Prince: U9

It is a pleasure welcoming Steven Prince as the coach of the U9 South Grey Spartans. Steven is a lifelong

learner and has taken that mindset to the hockey world. Steven shows great joy in improving his own

skills, ideas and knowledge as he is passing that learning onto the players. He is a true student of the

game, willing to look for the best way to motivate each player to improve, be the best player they can

be and have fun.

Grayson Hannivan: U11 Rep

Grayson has been the face of the South Grey Spartans since its inception. The question is never whether

or not Grayson will coach, it is how many teams will he be on the bench for. Grayson has many years of

coaching experience, ranging from U5 to U18, local league, rep, spring hockey and AAA hockey. Grayson

brings a balance of fun, hard work and a will to win. Grayson will challenge his players to be the best

every practice and game, always keeping in mind the most important goals of the organization.

Derek Grice: U13 Rep

Derek grew up away from South Grey, playing and learning his hockey from his own dad and growing his

love of the game while connecting with family. Derek’s goal is to continue that trend and ensure that

the families he is a part of love the game as much as he does. He has many hockey experiences,

including playing for the Huron Perth Lakers AAA (prior to the Highlanders being an organization) and continued on to play five seasons of junior C hockey with Mount forest and Walkerton.
Last season Derek successfully guided our U11 Rep team to the Tier 2 OMHA

Championships and represented themselves well at those championships. Derek’s philosophy is that

hard work, dedication and inclusion is the best way to create a true team experience which will help the

South Grey Spartans U13 Rep team have its greatest success.

Angelo Mallozzi: U15 Rep

Having Angelo back for a second year in the U15 Rep position is a big win for the organization. Angelo’s

dedication to the program and to improving himself is second to none. Angelo is known for leaving no

stone unturned as he searches for resources that will help his team win. His dedication to a system,

helping every player feel like they are a part of the team and an integral part of a winning culture is an

important philosophy for him. Angelo had a solid playing career beginning in AA hockey and moving to

the AAA world, helping him gain perspectives that he uses to be a successful hockey coach.
