FAQs

Registration regularly includes one game and one practice per week, so families can expect a minimum of 24 ice sessions over the course of a season. Typical season will run from early September to late March (This may vary, so please contact us for details.)
Costs aren’t as high as you think. We have a basic registration fee which includes a standard level of programming. Additional activity may involve extra fees on a user-pay basis.
Basic registration includes standard programming: usually one practice and one game per week, South Grey Minor Hockey owns the jerseys and does supply them for games. Socks will be supplied to all participants for the 2021-2022 season (This may vary, so please contact us for details.)
Yes, they can! Whatever level of experience your child has, they are welcome. South Grey Minor Hockey will place the child in the best way possible according to skating ability to help them stay engaged, develop and enjoy the game of hockey.  This is especially helpful for those who may be starting at an older age than some of their peers did. Skating is a core skill that hockey players will carry with them for a lifetime. We’re here to help your child develop this key part of the game.
To make sure we keep our players safe, we require you to provide all the items shown in the picture below. It’s important that your child’s equipment be in good condition, comfortable, and properly fitted in order to avoid injury.

As with most sports, kids’ hockey is different than the professional game you may watch on television. Our association is committed to keeping your child safe. We do this by having:

  • strict rules for equipment and behaviour,
  • a strong emphasis on teaching skills over contact,
  • no bodychecking allowed until the U14 level,
  • the option of no bodychecking in the higher age levels,
  • trained game officials who enforce league rules,
  • certified coaches and trainers for every team.

We believe hockey is a sport for life, where positive team experiences are always the priority.

Please contact us to check on the availability of competitive team programs offered.
Players who are new to hockey will be required to submit their full name, birth certificate, and proof of residential address. If this is the first time you are registering your child in hockey, you (the parent or guardian) will need to complete a simple, but important, respect program after registration.
